Mr. Beaverton is a dapper beaver who lives in a dam near the river. He’s lived there practically his whole life. He works as a detective and is always investigating mysterious happenings. He has a secretary, Miss Di Delphi, who is an Opossum. Oscar Otter, an orphan, lives with and works for Mr. Beaverton as a messenger boy.

Sir Sly Sepluv is a red fox and can be rather sneaky. He's a newer resident to Knotty Pine. He’s known to be a swindler and spends much of his time hanging out in front of the Pine Lodge. He is also known to pickpocket and swindle those he encounters. Not many of the local animals trust him, although he has found a friend in Corvus, a crow.

Animals of Knotty Pine

Hoover, a hedgehog with a small squeaky voice, runs the local mercantile. He has kind of an eccentric fashion style, hoping to interest customers to view the latest fabrics, clothes, and accessories instead of just buying food and supplies. He has a soft spot for the young animals that come in with their folks and gives them each a peppermint stick.

Miss Di Delphi is an opossum and is secretary for Mr. Beaverton, a detective. She lives in a den underneath Mr. Beaverton's Office at the base of a large pine tree. She keeps her home and office extremely clean and organized. She appears quiet spoken, but has a feisty side. If she is suddenly startled or feels threatened, she'll go into thanatosis, which is a state of shock or also known as "playing dead."

Quilliver Pine is a porcupine and is in his youth. He is best friends with Oscar, the River Otter. He is soft spoken and sweet. His family is poor, so he has taken a job as a chimney sweeper to help meet his family's needs. His customers often pay with items his family needs. He is constantly patching his jacket, since his quills frequently poke through. There is a group at school who teases him and calls him "Poor-Q-Pine." This, of course, hurts his feelings. Luckily, Oscar is always there to point out his strengths and help him feel better.

Oscar is a river otter that was orphaned after a storm washed him downstream away from his family. He was found by Mr. Beaverton, who has since cared for him and despite being a detective, has been unable to locate Oscar’s family. He has taken a job as a messenger boy for Mr. Beaverton. He’s very kind and obedient. His best friend is Quilliver Pine, a porcupine.

Corvus is a crow and is a traveling salesanimal. He is often found flying throughout the forest trading and bartering items. He is especially drawn to shiny objects. He makes his home in the dense dark forest, across the creek from the town. Many of the forest animals do not trust him, mainly because he is friends with Sir Sly Sepluv, who is a shady sort of character.

Albert Cornwall is a squirrel and runs the print shop and newspaper, called "The Harvester." He has a passion for writing and making stories know. He collects his news stories from all over the forest. A common source of information is Corvus, since he flies throughout the forest and can bring news from far away, although he may not be the most reliable source. Since Albert Cornwall is busy printing the newspaper, he rarely has time to collect food for his winter storage. To solve this problem, he accepts acorns and other food items as payment for the newspaper.

Toma is a bushy-tailed woodrat, commonly called a packrat. She is the town librarian and has a habit of collecting books, most of which do not fit on the shelves. The library isn’t really organized and has stacks of books on the floor and books randomly put on shelves. Toma doesn’t talk much but when she does, the conversation feels awkward and she feels like hiding. She doesn’t feel like she has many friends in town, even though many animals try to reach out to include her. When the town has their social gatherings, she prefers to stay home and read.

Topsy (a snail) and Turvy (an eastern box turtle) are best of friends and own Topsy Turvy’s Restaurant. Since they are a little slow, they keep busy taking customer’s hats when they arrive and by the time they get them hung up, the customer is done eating and it’s time to go get them again. Luckily, they have a great chef, Flavia, and some speedy chipmunk waitresses that keep up on all the orders. Topsy Turvy’s is famously known for their homemade pies, especially huckleberry pie. The Topsy Turvy special is three slices of pie stacked topsy turvy on top of each other topped with a wild raspberry and a sprig of fresh mint.

Lady Eden is a black bear and loves to spend her time gathering fruit, plants, roots, nuts, and other goodies she may find and sells them in town. She’s also interested in herbology and prefers a more natural approach to treating ailments. She and Dr. Hoot (the local doctor and apothecary) often disagree about treatments.
Lady Eden’s husband owns the local mine and is often busy with that. She also has twin cubs, Huckle and Berry. They go with her nearly everywhere, unless they are in school.

Miss Sylvi is a mountain cottontail rabbit and is Knotty Pine’s school teacher. She is very sweet, sensitive, and patient. She has a passion for learning and loves to help the young animals as they learn and grow. Her favorite part of teaching is watching the expression of a student when they finally understand something they’ve been struggling with. She makes a special effort to reach out to those who are shy, including the librarian, Toma, a Bushy-Tailed Woodrat.
Everyone in town loves and admires Miss Sylvi and is more than willing to help her.

Dr. Hoot is a great horned owl. He lives at the top of a tree in the center of Knotty Pine and serves as their doctor and apothecary. He stays up-to-date with the newest medicines and treatments; however he’s leery of herbal treatments. He often disagrees with Lady Eden’s more natural approach to treatments. When he’s thinking, he often snaps his beak. His nurse is Sabrina, a flying squirrel.

Ovis is a big horn sheep and the sheriff of the Evergreen Valley. He spends much of his time in Knotty Pine, where the jail is located. When he isn’t at the jail, he visits other towns throughout the valley. He works closely with Knotty Pine’s detective, Mr. Beaverton. In times of trouble he doesn’t hesitate to use his large horns for protection.
Ovis looks forward to his time in the Bluebird Mountains, as he loves climbing the rocky and forested terrain.

Ms. Olug is a wolverine and runs the Pine Lodge, a hotel in Knotty Pine. She lives in a den below the hotel.
She’s a more solitary creature and is nocturnal and can be rather grumpy. Her sleep is always getting interrupted during the day by guests checking in and out. She does take pride in her hotel and has different features in each room so that a variety of animals feel comfortable staying there. Room varieties include a nest, pond, log, or even rooms up high in the tree for animals who prefer to be elevated.

Daguerre is a raccoon and is a photographer and would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. He enjoys taking portraits of the animals around town and photographing nature. He is also the photographer for the local newspaper, The Harvester. His favorite (and most tedious) part of photography is the developing process, and he’s excited about the new process that has made it much easier to develop his photographs for the newspaper. His closest friend is Albert Cornwall, who runs the newspaper.

Flavia is a yellow-bellied marmot and is the chef at Topsy Turvy’s Restaurant. She enjoys getting fresh herbs from Lady Eden, a black bear, and using them in the daily specials. She also gets fresh produce from Hoover’s Haberdashery and Mercantile.
Since Topsy Turvy’s Restaurant is Knotty Pine’s only restaurant, it can get rather busy at times. Luckily she has great helpers, including Mini and Mia, the chipmunk waitresses.

Mini and Mia are sisters and chipmunks. They are waitresses at Topsy Turvy’s Restaurant in Knotty Pine. They are very efficient and quick to rush out the orders as soon as they are ready. Mini loves to store nuts in her cheeks and often sounds like a mush-mouth when she speaks. Mia is great at knowing what Mini is saying and is quick to interpret for her when Mini tries to speak with her cheeks full. Mini is a little more extravagant and wears a bold black, white, and lavender vest and a white skirt with black lace. Mia is more conservative and wears a blue vest with maroon skirt.
